Shikari or Shakira

shikari
Last week I caught up with Rou and Chris from Enter Shikari and played a game of ‘Shikari or Shakira’

Is it a lyric by Enter Shikari or Shakira?

I made this as hard as I possibly could but it turns out the guys do actually know their lyrics pretty well…

On the show this week I also caught up with Loz Taylor from While She Sleeps on the phone. Their co-headline show tour with Cancer Bats this coming May looks set to be an absolute banger and I wanted to check in with the progress of their new album ‘Brainwashed’, which is out March 23rd.

It’s relatively quiet on the gig-front at the minute. I’m pretty much saving myself for the ‘Prepare For Hell’ tour featuring Slipknot, Korn, and King 810 at Wembley Arena next week. I haven’t seen the 18-legged monster since their incredible headline performance at Download 2009 so i literally can’t wait.

Jodie Marsh on Kerrang!

jodie

Last week I caught up with Jodie Marsh. She might not immediately strike you as Kerrang! – as many K! listeners argued amongst themselves – but she’s got a cracking new TLC series called ‘Jodie Marsh on…’ where she tackles plastic surgery, mail order brides, virginity and lying cheating men. (Notably when I had Ross Kemp on the show to promote a similar series nobody batted an eyelid!)

By her own admission she can ‘talk for England’ so I’ve kept the full, unedited interview up here. Have a listen and check out the show – she might just surprise you!

Deaf or Havana

photo (1)

Today I was joined on the show by James and Max from Deaf Havana

Following on from the success of playing ‘HYPE or THEORY?’ with The Hype Theory 2 weeks ago, there was only one logical thing to do.

On next week¹s show I’ll be joined by Herman and Sam from Dragonforce!

I won¹t be at Glastonbury this year LONG STORY but I will be hitting Calling Festival to see Aerosmith. I haven¹t seen them live in nearly 5 years – I wasn’t at Download either – another LONG STORY – so I’m buzzing with excitement. There¹s a full day of supporting bands in the old school vein - Duff McKagan’s Walking Papers, Thunder, Richie Sambora from Bon Jovi and Heaven¹s Basement to name a few.

Between now and then I’ll be mostly listening to the new Rise Against single I Don’t Want To Be Here Anymore ahead of the release of their seventh studio album The Black Market on July 14th, because nobody does melody driven, politically minded punk rock quite like this Chicago four-piece.

The Hype Theory Interview @ Alexandra Palace

Following on from my While She Sleeps interview, check out my interview with Katy and Sean from The Hype Theory just after their performance at Vans Warped Tour last weekend.

They’re a great pop/punk/rock foursome from Essex and we’ve been playing them on Kerrang! for a little while. At Warped we discussed the big topics of the day – Essex, pizza, strip clubs and recording the follow-up to their debut album ‘Captives’

Have a listen below, let me know what you think and check them out on facebook for more!

Nice one

Everybody’s Dancing and I Want To Die

Kerrang! Radio’s Alex Baker has been playing this band since Day One but I have to admit it was only when their most recent album Old Souls came out that I really started to love this band. It’s a masterpiece from start to finish and Boston Square is comfortably my favourite single of 2013.

I caught up with the band ahead of their sellout show a couple of weeks ago at Camden’s Roundhouse – their triumphant final date of their previous biggest tour to date!

IKEA or DEATH

IKEA_or_DEATH_avatarIs it a piece of Ikea furniture or a black/death metal band?

After discovering this amazing website, ikeaordeath.com, the only logical thing to do was to play it on the radio.

We’re Off To Never Never Land

lars

I caught up with Lars Ulrich from Metallica for an interview to chat about their new 3D film, Through The Never. The film is out in cinemas now, and it’s pretty crazy. Most of the film’s 90 minutes are taken up by the band performing their biggest hits to a crowd on a stage built specifically for the film, interwoven with a loose storyline about a roadie sent on a mission which goes badly wrong. The concert footage is insane – and I’m very excited that they are thinking about taking the set on tour!

Listen to what he had to say:

I am giving away 3 copies of the epic soundtrack to the film!
To be in with a chance of winning, simply follow and tweet me (@DANHUDSON) with your favourite Metallica track by 11.59pm on Friday 18 October , and the winners will be chosen at random.

Sacramento, where you at?

MiddleClassRut

Monday sees the release of the second album from Middle Class Rut ‘Pick Up Your Head’.

Their last album, the explosive, but perhaps one-dimensional, No Name Out Colour, came out two and a half years ago, and it’s good to see they’ve spent that time honing their craft and really moving into new, uncharted territories. There’s much more depth, they’re much tighter as a band and the idea that just two people are making such a racket, frankly, is unbelievable.

They’re from Sacramento and frankly there’s traces of everything from fellow Sacromentans Deftones, to Rage Against The Machine and Jane’s Addiction in the mix. To my mind, they also compare to a early 00s Brit hopefuls The Music (man, what a great, great band) albeit much angrier and heavier.

It’s been knocking around for a while, but if you’ve missed the first single from the album, check it out!

Oh, and whilst we’re talking about Californian rock bands upping their game…the new letlive track is amazing.. hold tight for the album in July!

A NEW TRANSMISSION’S CALLING

I am delighted to announce that I am joining Kerrang! Radio to present the weekly rock chart.

The show starts this Saturday 22nd June at 10am and will feature tracks from Biffy Clyro, Lower Than Atlantis, Paramore and my favourite metal track of the year so far, this absolute banger…

You can listen to Kerrang! Radio on DAB, freeview TV channel 717, online at kerrangradio.co.uk or with our free mobile apps.

Nice one,

Dan
