In 2011, AFI<\/a> split up. Or rather, they didn\u2019t, it was a hoax. Nobody told me though, and so I\u2019ve spent the last 2 years thinking I\u2019d never get to see them again \u2013 or at all actually, as, criminally, I still haven\u2019t seen them live.<\/p>\n

On record though, they\u2019re one of my favourite bands. Their 2003 album, Sing The Sorrow<\/a>, is one of my all-time favourites and shows perfectly how to construct intelligent, dark, epic sounding gothic rock music that doesn\u2019t resort to ridiculous lyrics, gimmicks or a carefully constructed image to get by.<\/p>\n

Imagine my surprise then, to see this arrive on my Twitter feed yesterday \u2013 a link to a brand new AFI track \u2018I Hope You Suffer\u2019. There\u2019s some interesting effects on this, the guitar sounds BIG and in places, Davey Havok\u2019s vocals sound a tiny bit Trent Reznor. In short though, it sounds like they are back on form!<\/p>\n
